2019 Cultural Day

The 23rd of November 2019 marked yet another day in MCI where the rich cultures of Nigeria were again on display, at the 2019 Cultural Day celebration. This year’s celebration was themed “Cultural Diversification: A Veritable Tool for National Integration”.

In a symbolic representation of traditional heritage, students, staff and parents appeared in various colorful cultural attires. Different cultural songs and plays were rendered, while traditional procedures (such as flogging), as preconditions for marriage by a man were also enacted to the amusement of all.

In her lecture relating to the days’ theme, The Ag. Head of Languages & Literature Department, Mrs. Yusuff L.I., emphasized on the need for members of the society to embrace/accept cultural diversity, as this is a major requirement if National integration were to be achieved in its entirety.

As always, the overall essence of the cultural day celebration was not a ‘show’ but a day for all students and parents to reflect on the cultures of our country, Nigeria, against the pressure of modern ways which have accommodated a lot of wrongs that contribute to social vices today.

The event was also spiced with an array of traditional foods and drinks from different cultures in Nigeria. It was a very beautiful sight to behold as the entire MCI family (staff, students and parents) folded their sleeves to dig in to the various traditional delicacies that had been made.

It was certainly a very memorable event.
